NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Suffolk County Police say two teens were killed in a two-car crash involving brothers on Long Island early Saturday morning.

Police say 18-year-old Ray Vega of Huntington Station was driving a 1996 Honda at a high speed when he tried to pass a 1999 Pontiac driven by his brother, 19-year-old Kevin Vega around 1:15 a.m.

The Honda sideswiped the Pontiac and Ray Vega lost control of the vehicle struck a curb and then a tree in front of 1800 Walt Whitman Road in Melville, according to authorities.

Ray Vega and his passenger, 17-year-old Carmen Rivera-Gotay, were trapped in the vehicle.

Vega was pronounced dead at the scene. Rivera-Gotay was taken by firefighters to Plainview Hospital-North Shore where she was pronounced dead.

Police say Kevin Vega and his passenger, 21-year-old Isaias Perez were not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded and authorities are investigating whether the brothers may have been racing.
