Boy Rescued From Pennypack Creek, Brother Still Missing

Posted: Updated:

Police say one of two brothers who jumped into the Pennypack Creek in Northeast Philadelphia on Monday afternoon has been rescued, but the other is still missing.

The brothers, ages 11 and 13, were jumping off a foot bridge into the creek during Monday's rainstorm and decided to go over the falls for fun, according to officials at the scene. One of the brothers came up, but the other one did not.

Two people driving by called 9-1-1 and crews responded to the area of Winchester Avenue and the Roosevelt Boulevard (Route 1).

The call came in at 1:50 p.m., but rescue crews had a difficult time finding the location and then getting down there as the location is up to a mile into the woods, FOX 29's Stephanie Esposito reported from the scene.

Fire officials have called off the rescue effort, and police who remain at the creek are now considering this a recovery.
