Lots of pets scared by fireworks turned into shelter

PHOENIX -

Most of us love fireworks. But all the loud "booms" can be alarming to animals -- especially our pets.

All those fireworks are keeping animal shelters busy since Thursday. Lots of furry friends were picked up Thursday night and ended up at the Arizona Humane Society.

Many of them got scared by the fireworks and took off running.

Last year more than 500 animals came into the Arizona Humane Society shelter. Shelter workers say they've been busy picking up animals.

"It's been kind of busy this morning, a lot of people bringing in strays," says Ashleigh Goebel, Arizona Humane Society. "You want to check our shelter frequently, probably every 3 days same goes for Maricopa County, if you're missing your canine check those locations frequently."

If you lost your pet overnight, be sure to keep checking the shelters.

Shelter workers also suggest you put up fliers, check lost pet websites and post on Craigslist.
