Drunk Driver Hits Two Kids, Police Say

Police say Erika Williams was drunk behind the wheel when her car plowed over four people on the sidewalk.   Among the injured, two small children who are in critical condition at St. Christopher's hospital. The two year old little girl has lost her leg.

Overwhelming emotion on the 900 block of Anchor Street in Somerdale.

"My mom was screaming, 'the baby. the baby,'" says a witness.

In an instant, a 22nd birthday celebration turned chaotic.

"I just heard a loud boom," says another witness.

Police say Williams, 28, was behind the wheel of a 94 Oldsmobile when it veered onto the sidewalk filled with party goers, mowing down 2 women and 2 children.  A 5-year old girl and a 2-year old boy, who was pinned under the car.

Nature Williams was one more than a dozen onlookers who helped lift the car off the little boy.

"There was so much commotion and drama and blood everywhere," recalls N. Williams.

Pictures from the bloody scene show the tiny girl's leg was severed.

"The car was up on the grass and there was at least 20 or 30 of us trying to pull the car off the little girl and the lady," says Williams.

Another witness, a DJ at the party, performed CPR on the five year old. Witnesses say he may have saved his life.

"I was blowing and wasn't getting a response. .....this child is breathing," recalls the DJ.

Witnesses say Erika Williams had just left this house moments before the crash.

A man at the home who wouldn't identify himself was just learning the news.

"They say she was drunk behind the wheel. Wow that's sad. Sorry about that," he says.

Today, nearby neighbors on the block where "Watch for Children" signs hang, say something was bound to happen.

"Every day you have people speeding up the block you have so many kids playing out here we tried to get speed bumps but we can't get speed bumps because it's against the law," says Kito Rivas, a resident.
