ALERT: Attempted abduction of 9-year-old near Humboldt Park

Police have issued an alert to residents of the Humboldt Park area after a man tried to abduct a 9-year-old girl as waited for a ride home from school on Monday.

The attempt occurred about 3 p.m. in the 2700 block of West Augusta Boulevard, the alert said.

The man, described as a white male, between 40 and 50 years old, attempted to abduct the girl as she waited for a ride home from school.

He is about 5-feet-11, 170 pounds with medium-length black hair and a possible snake or dragon tattoo on his left arm. He was also wearing a blue tank top, blue jeans and brown shoes, police said. He was in a red minivan with a gray interior.

If anyone has any information that could help police with this investigation, they should contact Area Central detectives, at (312) 747-8380.

Just a few blocks east of this incident, a woman was beaten and sexually assaulted as she waited for a bus about 5 a.m. Monday, at Augusta and Western. That suspect was described as a black man between 19 and 26 years old, between 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10 and weighing 160 to 180 pounds.
