WASHINGTON -

A disabled train outside of the Clarendon station caused huge delays on the Blue and Orange lines during Tuesday evening’s rush hour.

Metro says the train became disabled shortly after 5:30 p.m. when it experienced a brake problem that car technicians were unable to fix. This resulted in single-tracking on the Orange Line between Foggy Bottom and Clarendon and between Foggy Bottom and Arlington Cemetery on the Blue Line.

Metro was unable to tow the train with passengers aboard, so passengers aboard the disabled train were transferred onto another train, and then were eventually moved to the Clarendon Station after a 90-minute delay.

There were no reported injuries or medical issues while the riders were stranded.

Normal two-track service resumed shortly before 7:30 p.m.
