Phoenix Police fatally shoot armed suspect

PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say Phoenix police shot and killed an armed man after officers received a call about an assault.

Police said the man, later identified as Louis Flores, was shot early Thursday at a Phoenix apartment complex.

According to police, Flores and a woman knocked on an apartment resident's door and demanded to see someone. When that resident told the couple he didn't know whom they were seeking, the resident told police that the couple pulled a gun on him.

Police say officers arrived and saw Flores. They say he lifted the front of his shirt and pulled a handgun out of his waistband.

Officials say two officers, whose names have not been released, shot Flores several times.

Authorities say Flores was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead.
