Celebrating With Sundaes: July is National Ice Cream Month

Posted: Updated:

Back in 1994, Ronald Reagan declared July "National Ice Cream Month".  Today about 90% of the population regularly enjoys the chilly treat and Steve and Maria got in on the Sundae making action with Kristina Vanni from the California Milk Advisory Board to create some new innovative recipes. The Lemon Meringue PIe Sundae and the S'mores Sundae.

Some cool facts we learned today, California is the leading producer of Ice Cream making 131 million gallons last year. That's equal to 4,192,000,000 scoops! Did you know that 99% of California's dairy farms are family owned so when you look for the seal you're supporting California Dairy Families.

If it's too hot outside for a campfire, you can still enjoy a S'more taste with Kristina's custom sundae made to taste just like the old fashion favorite. If you can't make a Lemon Meringue Pie, you can certainly impress your friends at your next dinner party by allowing them to create their own using the simple toppings that you may already have at home.
Krisitna also said "Don't be afraid to experiment". She has the trick to making a good sundae by mixing sweet & salty, or even your favorite everyday foods to create unique flavor combinations.

Updating the traditional "Float" can even be fun, and Kristina showed off her fruit cobbler float as well wit vanilla ice cream, fresh fruits, fruit flavored soda, crushed sugar cookies, and the secret.. a dash of cinnamon.

Sutter Zachman had his first record deal when he was barely out of his teens. You may have seen the Orange County native was on stage at the Largo and other hot clubs around LA. He then left town...after what he called a few "bouts" with the music business, but now he is back with a new EP called ‘Repeat Offender.'
