School counselor plans 100-mile trek to Prescott for 100 Club

PEORIA, Ariz. -

It's so hot, most of want to stay inside. But one valley man is running and riding 100 miles from the valley to Prescott to help the children of the fallen firefighters.

"It's gonna be a grind," says Tim Kane.

It will be a grind all right. Tim Kane is running and riding his bike to Prescott this Sunday.

"I wanted to do something that would get attention."

And it is getting attention. He's hoping to raise $25,000 for the 100 Club's scholarship program. He was a teacher and now a counselor at Grand Canyon University.

"I believe that the best thing you can give a child is an education."

It's his way of helping the children of the Granite Mountain Hotshots. 19 men died fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire.

If and when their kids want to go to college, Tim wants the money to be there for them -- and other kids who have lost a loved one in the line of duty.

"If we can make that free that's my motivation."

Tim has been riding his bike every day getting ready for the 100 mile trek.

Tim will be running and riding for 10 hours. There will be a chase car behind him filled with water and energy snacks to fuel him.

He will leave from the Peoria Fire Station 195 on Lake Pleasant Road, and end at Prescott's Fire Station 7.

You are welcome to join him on Sunday morning.

The money he will raise goes to the 100 Club's Scholarship Program.

Tim will have a tracker on him, and you can follow his journey on his Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/tim.kane.39
