Cubs agree to forgo plans to build bridge over Clark Street

CHICAGO (Associated Press) -

The alderman whose ward includes Wrigley Field says he now supports a $500 million renovation of the iconic ballpark, clearing a path for final City Council approval.

Alderman Tom Tunney suggested Tuesday he won some key concessions from the Cubs. Perhaps the biggest is an agreement not to erect any outfield signs in addition to a Jumbotron in left field and another large sign in right.

Tunney says the Cubs also agreed to postpone indefinitely a planned bridge over Clark Street.

In a statement, Mayor Rahm Emanuel says "overcoming these remaining issues will allow the planned development to go forward so the Cubs can begin investing in Wrigley Field and Wrigleyville."

A Tuesday vote by the council's zoning committee could set up a Wednesday vote by the full council.
