Will New York Voters Forgive Anthony Weiner Again?

Posted: Updated:

He's in trouble again. New York City mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner is back in the hot seat after finding himself in another sexting scandal.

But he insists he's not dropping out of the race.

Weiner has admitted to exchanging X-rated pictures and texts with a young woman he met online even after he resigned as congressman two years ago for similar behavior.

A 22-year-old woman told the gossip website "The Dirty" that she had a sexually-explicit online relationship with Weiner that lasted for six months.

She says it started last July and included raunchy text messages, pictures and phone sex.

Weiner, who the website says used the handle "Carlos Danger" addressed the public Tuesday with his wife, Huma, who finally spoke out after remaining quiet over the last two years.

When Weiner resigned from Congress, he told reporters that he's had sexual conversations with at least a half-dozen women.

He said Tuesday he knew that other texts and photos were likely to come out but said this behavior was behind him.

Some of his opponents say he should drop out of the mayor's race, saying he's become a distraction to the real issues the city is facing. But he disagrees.

According to poll numbers released earlier this month, Weiner leads the mayoral race, earning 25 percent of the vote. That's a slight margin over Council Speaker Christine Quinn, who is supported by 22 percent of Democrats.

One thing's for sure: This latest disclosure will test voter's willingness to forgive him.

It's believed that's a big reason why his wife finally broke her silence is that she may be the key to helping him win this race.
