PD: Homeowner shoots intruder in face, over 40 pot plants found

Updated:
PHOENIX -

A homeowner fought back against a home invasion suspect early Friday morning.

Police say a 32-year-old man broke into a home near 19th Avenue and Thunderbird while the homeowner was sleeping.

The homeowner woke up and heard an intruder trying to kick in his bedroom door.

Police say the man grabbed his gun and shot the suspect in the face. The suspect was found with his foot still in the door.

We're told the bullet went through from cheek to cheek and he lost some teeth.

Police say the suspect will probably survive.

Phoenix Police Sgt. Tommy Thompson says it appears there were other suspects because the homeowner heard others outside.

When officers arrived, they found 20 to 25 fully grown marijuana plants and 25 smaller marijuana plants.

Although the homeowner has a valid marijuana card, he is only allowed 12 plants. The homeowner could face charges.

Police don't know the motive of the break-in.

Investigators will talk to neighbors as the morning progresses to see if there are any surveillance cameras on nearby houses that may help in the investigation.

This is a developing story. Stay with FOX 10 News for updates.
