Lollapalooza safety preparations underway

Posted: Updated:
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

The city of Chicago giving plenty of notice on how to stay safe if you're going to Lollapalooza.

There's a much more clear plan and the city wants to make sure people coming to Lollapalooza this year know exactly where they need to go in case of an emergency.

It became quite chaotic last year when a severe thunderstorm made its way through the Chicago forcing about 60,000 people to seek shelter. Some hid in storefronts while others sought shelter at Metra stations or huddled together under bus stops to try to stay out of that rain.

This year the Office of Emergency Management and Communications is planning on putting up blue and white signs throughout the Grant Park area to direct people to shelter areas in the event of a weather emergency.

The city of Chicago along with OEMC had to find a place where at least several hundred thousand people could cram into.

There will be three main shelters that people can go to: Grant Park north and south garages will be open as shelters as well as the East Monroe garage.

Lollapalooza is set to kick off August 2-4.
