DULUTH, Ga. -

Hope filled their hearts and excitement filled the air as thousands poured into the Arena at Gwinnett Center for a chance at becoming America's next American Idol.

At ground zero of this talent bomb stood Good Day Atlanta's Karen Graham and Paul Milliken, who covered the Idol's local audition in Atlanta from sundown to sun up. Stories ranged from one girl inspired to reach for the stars in the wake of Glee star Corey Monteith's death to dozens and dozens of hopefuls putting competition aside to harmonize in impromptu sessions.

Then, countdown to Seacrest. The excitement reached a feverish pitch as American Idol host and cornerstone Ryan Seacrest arrived on the scene, rose above the masses on a motorized lift and worked them into a frenzy.

Paul's interview went from script to silly, as Ryan poked a little extra fun toward the end.

But, far better to hear it in the words of the people who were actually there. Without further ado, here's Paul and Karen!
