CROWN POINT, Ind. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A murder charge has been filed in Lake Superior Court against a 17-year-old Gary man charged with gunning down an 18-year-old man near his home.

Aqueeli Walton, of the Glen Park section of Gary, is charged in the Monday afternoon homicide of Cameron Sanders, who was shot about nine times and died at Franciscan St. Margaret Mercy in Hammond. He suffered gunshot wounds to both sides of his chest, abdomen, right femur and insides of both his elbows and ankle.

Witnesses told police an argument began inside a residence in the 1400 block of Sherman Street and gunshots rang out. Walton then ran out of the front door of the house.

Sanders was lying on the kitchen floor.

The victim's mother told police she was at Hammond City Court with another son when Cameron Sanders' girlfriend, who is Walton's sister, sent her a text that Cameron had just hit her and shot at her and that the mother needed to call her right away. The mother told police she returned the call and went to her home next door to the shooting scene. As she was speaking with the girlfriend, she heard four to seven gunshots from inside the home next door and saw a cousin run outside, the probable cause affidavit states.

One witness told police the argument between Sanders and Walton was about Sanders fighting with his girlfriend, who is Walton's sister.
