FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. (WJBK) -

When an elderly parent or even an adult child needs medical care, it can put stress on the caregivers. So a nurse has created a place that takes care of medical needs while making people smile.

Ballroom dancing, upper body workouts, friendly BINGO competitions -- it is wall to wall activity at Kathlene's Passionate Adult Day Health Services in Farmington Hills.

After treating patients in her home healthcare business, that is how registered nurse Teberah Alexander designed it.

"We noticed that they want to get out, the seniors or the disabled. They want to enjoy life, and they want to attend activities," she said.

Named after her inspiration, her late grandmother, Alexander opened the adult day center for anyone who needs medical attention and some quality interaction.

For Alexander, honoring her grandmother's memory means knowing how to make a difference in a population that is often forgotten about.

"They want somewhere to feel that they're wanted and needed and to have purpose and to prevent the social isolation, and I wanted to help improve their quality of life," she said.

Kathlene's is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The rate is under $70 a day. Click here for more information.
