Millennium Hollywood Project, Sitting On A Shaky Fault?

Posted: Updated:
Hollywood, CA -

Geologists have discovered an active fault-line underneath the exact location where developers plan to build the Millennium Hollywood Project.

The discovery was made after the LA City Council gave the green light for the construction. The plan is to build two of the tallest towers in Hollywood. One would be 39 stories the other 35. But California geologists say any building over a fault could be ripped in half during an  earth-quake. They've always known there is a fault line that runs through Hollywood but up until now, they hadn't mapped out the exact location. Geologists say the fault appears to run near Hollywood Boulevard and Vine street.

California law prohibits construction of new buildings within 50 feet of an active earth-quake fault. The head of the Geological survey says there is plenty of evidence to show the fault is active and capable of producing a devastating earthquake. They plan extensive research. As for the developer of this project..he says he welcomes more testing and has no interest in building anything that would be unsafe.

Geologists say they will speed up the testing and hope to have the results by 2014.
