Fire engulfs truck in Westchester

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

A fire tore through a truck in Westchester County, causing a commotion in a quiet neighborhood Friday evening.

A white Isuzu box-style truck was virtually destroyed. Its cab could be seen tilted up and the container torn apart.

The truck was from Greenstar Insulation. A crew was blowing fiberglass insulation into an attic of a home on Madison Road, an official said. The truck stopped working, so the crew went outside to check and saw that the vehicle was on fire, Capt. John Saviano of the Scarsdale Fire Department said.

The trucks tires blew out, but a pressurized tank of liquid foam and a pressurized tank of oxygen in the truck did not blow.

An earlier version of this report said the truck exploded, but police say there was no explosion.

The driver of the truck suffered some cuts when he accidentally walked through a glass door of the home, Saviano said.

Firefighters extinguished the flames that had engulfed the truck and secured the scene.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown, but was probably due to a mechanical failure inside the truck, Saviano said.

New York's attorney general has settled a false advertising investigation at Wal-Mart, saying some store personnel were citing a nonexistent "sugar tax" on soda. Investigators say some consumers who complained were falsely told the state has a "sugar tax." They say the markup of more than 16 percent violated state laws.
