Study: Wiggling toes helps circulation and balance
Take off your shoes! August 6 is Wiggle Your Toes Day!
Judi Bar, a wellness expert at the Cleveland Clinic, says kick off those shoes and take a minute to celebrate your toes.
"The idea is moving our toes. Think about how our little piggies are all stuffed up into our shoes so to start with -- just moving our toes and massaging and pulling our toes in any way that we can," said Bar.
Judi says moving, pulling and massaging your toes and feet can help stimulate circulation.
Gravity pulls on our feet and they can get a little swollen if we're standing or sitting for long periods of time.
Wiggle Your Toes Day is a good reminder to free your feet and get the blood flowing.
She says even just rolling up onto your toes can help with balance too.
"Press up on our tip toes and move back and forth so we're then taking it into what would help us with our gait and our balance so there's that kinesthetic feeling of having our foot on the floor and doing gentle motion on the floor to help us balance a little better."
According to Judi, foot "press ups" or "roll ups" can also help strengthen your arches which may improve balance and body alignment.
