PONTIAC, Mich. (WJBK) -

A thin coat of black spray paint wasn't enough to hide a stolen ATV from authorities on the lookout in Pontiac.

Oakland County Sheriff's say a pair of Pontiac teenagers were caught red handed just over a mile from where they stole a man's four-wheeler over the weekend.

Authorities say Demarkius Jones, 18, and Coryell Gross, 19, were charged Wednesday with unarmed robbery. Police say the pair asked to purchase the ATV from its 23-year-old owner in the area of Barkell and First Street on Sunday afternoon. When the man told them it was not for sale, the suspects attacked him and rode off on the machine.

A short time later, officers spotted the suspects riding the ATV. Police say they spray painted it black to conceal its original blue color. Police noted that the paint was still wet and both suspects were covered in it.

Jones and Gross are free on $5,000 personal bond.

If convicted, they face up to 15 years in prison.
