Ga. man accused of approaching child found shot

ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta police say a man who tried grabbing a pair of sunglasses from a girl's head as she walked to school was shot soon afterward.

Sgt. Greg Lyon says a woman was walking her daughter to school Wednesday morning when a man approached and tried grabbing the child's sunglasses. The woman and child escaped and called police.

Lyon says shortly afterward, officers responded to a shooting near the area the where the man approached the child. Lyon says officers found 24-year-old Rico Holmes bleeding and the woman who called earlier identified him as the suspect.

Authorities say Holmes told investigators he was the victim of an unprovoked shooting by the occupant of a small burgundy car.

Lyon says charges are pending against Holmes and police are searching for the shooter.
