Short videos, big impressions: Designers tap into Vine, Instagram

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Bold magazine spreads and hot runway pictures worked for a while, but today's hottest fashion trend is video.

"You're going to see handbags, jewelry, shoes," said Tampa stylist Tamy Lugo.

Designers like Michael Kors are getting creative with the social media app Vine.

They can tell amazing style stories they can tell in just six seconds.

For Tamy Lugo, shooting Vines at her fashion shoots is a must. She says the short videos allow you to see something pictures don't.

"They get to get a better feel for it, whether it's fabric, material, hair, make-up."

Big retailers are catching on! Nordstrom says they've got more than 11,000 followers on Vine with their posts averaging 200 to 300 likes and up to 15 comments and re-Vines.

Vines of fashion shows like Miami's Swim Week are also a hot trend -- but Vine isn't alone. Instagram's new 15-second video feature is a huge hit, with a longer lasting impression.

"Instagram video is a great way for us to show behind the scenes footage of the way that we kind of prep things before it comes out on the floor," says Penelope T's Taryn Williams.

Seeing products go from the box to the rack gives customers a look at the newest styles before they even walk in.

"We'll have people comment or call immediately, 'Put that on hold for me, I'm on my way,' " Williams says.

Adding filters and sharing out on Facebook and Twitter are the last steps -- showing off fashion that no longer sits still!
