Heavy rain, fallen trees lead to big outages in DeKalb Co.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Georgia Power crews worked through the night in parts of metro Atlanta left without electricity after Sunday night's heavy rains.

Just over 4,800 Georgia Power customers were without electricity as of 6 a.m., according to the Georgia Power outage map.

One crew was still at work about 5 a.m., in the largely dark pre-dawn hours, trying to remove severed power lines and reset new ones. This happened after a large tree gave way under the steady barrage of weekend rain along Dresden Drive, near Shallowford Road, in DeKalb County.

The tree was partially lying in the roadway with snapped lines strewn all. The tree is one of many in a largely wooded residential area.

Thankfully, the utility pole appeared to be intact and undamaged by the fallen tree.
