8 injured in shootings across city

Eight people have been wounded in shootings across the city since Tuesday evening.

Most recently in Rogers Park, a 33-year-old man was shot in the hip and stomach about 2:16 a.m., following a "verbal altercation about gang affiliation" in the 1600 block of West Morse Avenue, police said.

The man was in "stable" condition at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Two hours earlier in Englewood, a 25-year-old man was shot in both of his feet when a gunman opened fire from a passing car, police said.

The 25-year-old was in 5600 block of South Shields Avenue about 12:15 a.m. when somebody in a passing light-colored vehicle shot him, police said. The man was in "stable" condition at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

Meanwhile, a teenager on the North Side suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle, though police suspect his injury may have been self-inflicted.

The boy was in the 3100 block of North Hoyne Avenue in the North Center neighborhood when he was shot about 12:15 a.m., police said.

The boy, who was in "stable" condition" refused to cooperate with investigators, police said.

On the South Side, police were questioning a "person of interest" after two people were wounded during two related shootings in the South Chicago neighborhood late Tuesday.

A 23-year-old man was shot in the arm in the 2700 block of East 87th Street when gunfire first erupted about 10:49 p.m., police said.

Just one minute later and about three blocks away, bullets hit a 21-year-old man in his arm and neck as he stood on a porch at East 88th Street and South Escanaba Avenue, police said. Both men were in "stable" condition.

The gunman who opened fire in both shootings is believed to be the same person, police said. Investigators were questioning a person of interest early Wednesday, police said. Both men were in "stable" condition.

In the Englewood neighborhood, a 30-year-old man was shot in the groin after he was robbed in the in the 7200 block of South Green Street about 10:40 p.m., police said.

The man was sitting in a vehicle when a gunman climbed in the passenger side and demanded a necklace the soon-to-be shooting victim was wearing, police said. After taking the necklace, the gunman shot his victim in the groin. He then fled the scene.

His victim was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital where he is in "stable" condition, police said.

About the same time, a 19-year-old man was shot multiple times Tuesday night in the Calumet Heights neighborhood, police said.

He was in the 9000 block of South Yates Avenue when he tried running from an approaching gunman, police said. As he ran, the gunman shot him in the arm about 10:40 p.m., police said. The man was in "stable" condition at John H. Stroger Hospital of Cook County.

On the West Side about 7:40 p.m., a 47-year-old man was shot in the lower back in the 500 block of North Pine Avenue in Austin, police said. He was listed in "stable" condition.
