Fighting Back: Robbery victim enlists Silent Witness for help

Posted: Updated:

A Phoenix woman is on a mission to find the man that broke into her house and stole jewelry and other items while her family was out. She's now joined forces with Silent Witness.

She says it's not about getting the items back, but getting the man off the streets so he can't do it again.

"As soon as I hit the door and I saw this rounder of jewelry that I had from costume jewelry was gone, I knew we had been robbed," said homeowner Tracy Wadas.

The surveillance video from inside her home near Camelback and 61st Street shows a man walking around the outside before making his way inside.

"It's like he knew we weren't there.. all systems go."

Wadas says the man got away with jewelry and some other items, but that's not what she's mad about.

"Stuff is stuff.  There were some things that were sentimental.. my grandmother's rosary, my mom has passed away.. her jewelry.. it wasn't worth anything.  It's the violation.  It is the person coming into your home that's not supposed to be there and how do you safeguard yourself against that?"

That's why she's joined forces with Silent Witness.

"I want this man arrested."

Her hope:  someone, somewhere recognizes the burglar before he can strike again.

"We don't just sit back and take this.  We don't become vigilantes, we don't go out and do crazy things, but we do look at things differently and so Silent Witness was a way for me to do that."

Police don't have much about this suspect other than he may be a black male.

If you have any information about this case, call Silent Witness.  You can remain anonymous and receive a cash award for tips leading to an arrest or indictment.
