LILBURN, Ga. -

The man accused in a deadly hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a mother and daughter will remain behind bars for now.  A Gwinnett County judge denied bond for Spencer Prigmore on Monday.

Prigmore is accused of hitting Maria Maldonado and her 6-year-old daughter, Melissa, last month.  Authorities say the two were walking along Lawrenceville Highway when they were struck.

Prigmore, 43, has been in jail since the accident.  Authorities say he drove his white pick-up truck off the roadway and onto the sidewalk, where he hit the mother and daughter.  They say he then drove a short distance from the scene, where officers arrested him and the woman in the passenger seat of his truck.  That woman was not charged.

Prigmore faces multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide, DUI and hit-and run.  Authorities say he has a criminal history that consists of six arrests in Gwinnett County– including a 2009 charge for giving alcohol to a minor.

A street-side memorial has been created at the spot where Maldonado and her daughter lost their lives.   Weeks later, passers-by continue to leave notes and flowers for the two.
