JOLIET, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Three south suburban men have been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison each for breaking into a home and robbing a woman and her young son at gunpoint in 2011.

Circuit Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak sentenced Larnell Weston, 29, of Dixmoor; and Ternell Weston, 26, of Calumet Park, to 23 years in prison, according to a statement from the Will County State's Attorney's office. She sentenced Raunchino James, 27, of Chicago Heights, to 21 years.

The men were convicted of home invasion, residential burglary and armed robbery in a January bench trial, a statement from prosecutors said.

"Our citizens have an absolute right to feel safe inside their homes," Will County State's Attorney James Glasgow said in the statement. "These three armed thugs not only stole cash and belongings from these innocent people, they completely violated their sense of security, and for that they are going to prison for a long time."

The trio kicked in the door of a University Park home early on Feb. 19, 2011, according to prosecutors. They pointed guns at a woman and her 12-year-old son, and demanded money as the boy pleaded with the men not to hurt his mother.

The men then ransacked the home and fled with cash, an Xbox, video games, a laptop computer, camera, camcorder and other items, according to the state's attorney's office.

University Park police found the men in a nearby wooded area, and they ran into an apartment building, where they were arrested, according to prosecutors.
