Ranch owner accused of neglecting horses

MORRISTOWN, Ariz. -

Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies have seized over a dozen animals from a ranch in the far west valley.

Deputies arrested 38-year-old Jesus Torres after serving a search warrant at a ranch in Morristown, located between Surprise and Wickenburg.

Deputies say the animals were neglected, in desperate need of food and medical attention.

They seized several animals, including 7 horses, 3 goats, and 4 dogs.

"We continue to crack down on animal abuse. This is another example where owners do not take care of their animals," said Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

"We arrested the owner, put him into the 4th Avenue Jail. The horses and ponies are going to our Tent City Jail where the male inmates will take care of them. The chihuahuas went to our 1st Ave Jail."

Torres is facing 27 counts of animal abuse.
