Fast Food Workers Fight To Increase Minimum Wage

Posted: Updated:

All across the country, fast-food restaurant workers are going on strike to try and get better wages.

And that includes right here in the Delaware Valley.

Our cameras filmed workers protesting Thursday outside Burger King and Wendy's in Wilmington, Del.

They're fighting to increase their pay to $15 an hour.

Right now, they're making half that, and many workers say it's impossible to raise a family.

"I've got a 14-year-old daughter. It's like, I can't raise a 14-year-old daughter on $7.25," Wendy's employee Howard White said.

Organizers say thousands of workers are walking out of restaurants from coast to coast, pushing for chains to increase the minimum wage.

The restaurant industry says it already operates on thin margins and a wage increase would lead to higher prices for customers.

President Barack Obama wants to increase the minimum wage to $9 an hour.
