PHOENIX -

This Labor Day, a valley family is helping out the less fortunate in a unique way, offering some relief to people on the streets. They're giving what they can in remembrance of one of their own.

"About 5 years in 2008 my cousin Joe Marguia was gunned down in front of a family's home. During a family party, some uninvited guests showed up and when we asked them to leave they left but came back with gunfire," says Renee Udave, Joe's cousin.

"It's just a way to keep his memory alive," says aunt Mary Ahumeda.

The memory of Joe Marguia.

The family has been coming out for several years to University Park in downtown Phoenix to cook out and feed the homeless.

"He was all in to helping out the homeless, he would give his change out to him on the corner, he would pass out water to them or give him his own food."

This year the family brought something else as well.

"We got clothes this year. Last year we didn't have clothes but this year everyone donated clothes and shoes, socks," says Ahumeda.

"It's just one big family getting together, giving back to those who can't give to themselves," says Udave.

Joe's murder is still unsolved, but the family is hoping someone may see this and call police with new information.

The family helps to feed hundreds of homeless people each year.
