Found: Owner of missing dog pendant thanks to social media

MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (WJBK) -

Kelly Dunn had pets growing up, so when he found a dog pendant with ashes inside, he felt the pain of the person missing it.

"I knew it had to be special to someone, so that's why I wanted to just try and reach out and try to find this person," Dunn says.

Dunn found the pendant in the parking lot near the Post Office at 12 Mile & John R. He went home and posted a picture on Facebook, and the post went viral.

Dunn tell us his post was shared over 1,000 times.

Fox 2 also shared the photo. Soon after, we received a call from a woman saying she lost the necklace.

We set up a meeting with the owner, Erica Derbin from Washington Township, and the Good Samaritan.

When the two met, Derbin was very thankful to be reunited with her pet, Flasher.

She tells Dunn the dog passed away just a couple weeks ago, and having him back "definitely [makes] our family happy."

"I noticed [the pendant] missing today, and I went on Facebook, and I'm just searching like I normally do, and I see a picture of a pendant. And I thought, 'Oh my god, that looks like mine! I wonder who else is selling it.' And I read on [the photo] - '12 and John R. area' - and I'm like, 'I was just there Saturday! And I haven't seen it since then!'" Derbin explains to Dunn.

Dunn says he found it on Sunday.

Derbin calls the whole ordeal "so amazing."

Fox 2 Nation, we want to know - was there ever a time you went to great lengths to return a missing item? Or did someone go to great lengths to return an item to you?
