Officer shoots suspect following alleged robbery

PEORIA, Ariz. -

A police officer shot a 19-year-old man after he began reaching for something in his waistband following an alleged robbery on Friday night.

Peoria police say a woman called saying her son had stolen from her and then left her apartment.

Officers stopped a man that fit the suspect's description near Grand and 87th Avenues.

The man allegedly reach into his waistband to get something and officers, fearing it was a weapon, shot him in the arm.

Police say he was found to be unarmed and believe he was reaching for something he stole from his mother's apartment.

He was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
