New smartphone app helps track sexual predators

Posted: Updated:

It seems like there's an app for just about everything.  On Thursday, the Department of Homeland Security unveiled a new app that can help keep our children safe.

It's currently available at the Apple app store and is free to the public.

Special Agent Lon Wingand hopes the app will help people report tips and leads to Immigration and Customs Enforcement about sexual predators and fugitives.

"It really provides us a force multiplier with the public assistance to located and arrest these individuals," he said.

And the app helps you do just that -- it has everything you need to look out for predators.

The app also has a gallery of bad guys.  You'll see a close up of the fugitive, along with his or her criminal record and where they were last seen.

But not every fugitive has a name -- the pictures are a big help. I.C.E. can also add a crime scene.

"We really want the public to take an active interest in this so we can get these predators off the streets," said Wingand.

The tips and leads are all anonymous.  The app will also give you alerts on where predators might be.
