CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 14-year-old Chicago boy is recovering after he was shot in the back outside a high school in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

The boy was shot around 7:45 p.m. Thursday outside the Sarah E. Goode STEM Academy in the 7700 block of South Homan Avenue.

Investigators say they believe the shooting took place after an argument about gang affiliations. He tried to run away, but was then shot. Officers searched the front landscaping with flashlights Thursday night.

Paramedics initially took the boy in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to Fire Media Affairs. Police said the boy was in "stable" condition.

Chicago Police say Friday that no one's been arrested in the case and they aren't sure if the teenager was a student at the school.

Area Central detectives are investigating.

The Associated Press contributed tot his report.
