CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Chicago police officers rescued a man after he was pulled into Lake Michigan while walking his dog on the North Side Friday morning.

The man, 41, was first reported in the water about 1:35 a.m. off the shore of Rogers Park Beach, authorities said. He clung to a breakwall until officers were able to pull him out, shortly after 2 a.m.

The dog somehow got away from the 41-year-old and another man he was with. The two ran chased the dog after it jumped into the lake, but while in the water, the 41-year-old was swept away by the current.

According to officers on the scene, the man was about a block out when police located him after about 20 minutes of searching.

The Chicago Fire Department was unable to deploy divers to search the area due to rough lake conditions, Fire Media Affairs said.

He was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston in good condition, Fire Media Affairs said.
