ATLANTA -

He's on the ride of a lifetime. Jacob Landis is combining his three passions of baseball, cycling and helping the hearing impaired. He's riding to 30 baseball stadiums in the U.S. to raise money for people who would benefit from a cochlear implant – but, cannot afford it.

These surgically implanted electronic devices provide a sense of sound to a person who is exceptionally deaf or severely hard of hearing.  When Jacob was 2, his mother noticed his speech development was slow. Over the next three years, Jacob's hearing took a downturn and he was fitted with hearing aids.

But, even these eventually proved little help to him. In the years that followed, he withdrew from playing the sports he'd enjoyed and his emotional state worsened.

Then, in June 1999, when Jacob was 10 years old, he had cochlear implant surgery. He could hear again. Now, he's eager to pass along the gift that cochlear is to him to others who are in need.

In October 2012, Jacob made his decision to go on his current mission. People are definitely invited to be a part of it! Visit the online and social links below to learn more about Jacob's Ride and, perhaps, get involved.

Making his way through Atlanta, Jacob rode to Turner Field from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday. He cycled State Highway 3/US Highway 41 all the way from Adairsville into Atlanta.
