Burglar caught in the act, getaway goes awry

Posted: Updated:

Thanks to the investigative work of a teenager, Chandler Police were able to arrest a man suspected of burglarizing a residence on Monday.

However, he didn't make it easy.

About 12:30 p.m. Monday, a teenage girl returned home to see someone in her home, burglarizing it. She got the suspect's license plate and a description, and called police.

"The suspect came out with some stolen items from the home, electronics and some jewelry, she sat back and watched... gives us a suspect description and license plate number on the car," says Chandler Police Sgt. Joe Favazzo.

The suspect fled the neighborhood in his vehicle at a high rate of speed.

Officers located the suspect vehicle at the Mesa/Chandler border and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect failed to stop and began running stop signs and speeding, so officers pulled back.

Five minutes later, the suspect collided with a pickup in the area of Alma School and Pecos, and took off on foot. He was taken into custody and taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries.

The two people in the pickup were hurt in the collision and taken to hospitals with serious injuries.

The suspect was later identified as Gabriel Juan Lamb, 25. He is facing charges of burglary and aggravated assault.

Stolen property was recovered from the suspect's vehicle, said Favazzo.
