NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) -

Police and the FBI are focusing their search for a gunman who shot and killed one person and critically injured another on Long Island around a park in upstate New York.

"At around 11 pm last night a Putnam county sheriff located the suspect's vehicle at Sandy Beach Park. He was not in the vehicle," said Nassau County Executive Ed Mangano on Thursday.

The suspect, Sang Ho Kim, is a vendor for Savenergy on South Street in East Garden City.

Police say Kim, 63, went inside the business on Wednesday morning and confronted the employees and began shooting.  He hit two male victims.  One died at the scene.  The other was rushed into surgery at a Long Island hospital.

Kim is believed to be armed and dangerous.  Police said that he fled the scene in a white Honda Pilot with NY plate FMA 3648.  The public was asked to call 9-1-1 if they spot Kim.

The Haldane Central School District was closed Thursday.

Cops focused their search in the area and around the Roosevelt Field Mall for a few hours after the shooting.  Customers and employees were allowed to leave the mall after 1 p.m. but no one was being allowed to enter.

The mall was updating the situation via its social media sites.

There was a heavy police presence along South Street and Ring Road. Surrounding streets were closed, including ramps from the Meadowbrook Parkway leading to the mall.

Garden City schools and Nassau Community College were on lock down. Hofstra University resumed classes at noon, according to the school's Twitter account.

Residents of Garden City and local towns were notified via robo-calls to remain indoors during the police search.

"Crime Stoppers has a $5,000 reward," said Mangano.

The giant African snail damages buildings, destroys crops and can cause meningitis in humans. But some people still want to collect, and even eat, the slimy invaders. The Agriculture Department is trying to stop them. Since June, department authorities have seized more than 1,200 live specimens of the large snails, all of them traced back to someone in Georgia who was selling them illegally.

The rip current risk remains high along the New Jersey and New York coastlines. Some beaches were open to the public but closed to swimmers. The National Weather Service issued a High Surf Advisory and Rip Current Statement for the area beaches because of the effects of Hurricane Cristobal, which is expected to track south and east of the Jersey shore through Thursday.
