Ariz. human trafficking task force finishes report

Updated:

PHOENIX (AP) - A task force appointed by Gov. Jan Brewer to study how Arizona laws combat human trafficking has completed its report.

The governor's office received the report Thursday and released its findings, which include recommendations on how to toughen state laws.

The report makes numerous suggestions such as more training for law enforcement agencies, getting sex trafficking victims assistance instead of prison time and handing out harsher penalties to those who exploit victims.

The task force also recommends a timeline to implement new strategies before the Super Bowl comes to Glendale in 2015.

Brewer created the task force in April to study how officials could reduce human trafficking in Arizona.

Cindy McCain, wife of Sen. John McCain, co-chaired the task force, alongside Arizona Department of Homeland Security Director Gilbert Orrantia.
