OAK PARK, Ill. (FOX 32 News) -

Patrick's People and Places is on the road! Good Day is looking for interesting people and places that make your neighborhood special. This week, FOX 32 visits Oak Park.

Good Day Chicago's first stop? Oak Park River Forest High School! The marching band, math team, football team and cheerleading squad woke up very early just to say hello to the Chicago area, and show what they have to offer the greater community.

Oak Park has a population of a little less than 50,000 people. The original settlement was established in 1837. But things really began to boom after the great Chicago Fire of 1971. Chicago residents moved west after the fire and the area developed very quickly.

In the late 1880s, a young, talented architect bought a parcel of land, built a home and later a design studio. That young architect was none other than Frank Lloyd Wright. Wright's home and studio are located in one of three national historic districts in Oak Park, which includes 27 Wright designed structures and other historically significant buildings.

A group of women visiting from Sao Paolo, Brazil said his designs are remarkable.

"The way he uses the drawings, the structure, the woods… It's lovely," one visitor told Good Day Chicago. "It's astonishing."

When it comes to food, there's plenty to choose from. There is a delicious blend of smaller, simple Americana spots like Tasty Dog. But there are also places boasting cultural cuisines that borrow from Africa, Asia and Europe, like Il Vicolo Tratorria.

If owner Vito isn't in the kitchen, he's in the dining room socializing with customers.

"We try to create something that is family oriented. Food that's fresh and good," Vito said. "We try to be very friendly and people love us!"

Oak Park was originally part of Cicero until it separated and established itself as an independent village in 1902.

That's about the time another famous resident was born, author Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway was born on Oak Park Avenue. He later moved to his home on Kenilworth, where he was raised.

Tarzan author Edgar Rice Burroughs called Oak Park home as well. Other notables, just to name a few, include McDonald's founder Ray Kroc, actors Betty White and John Mahoney, comedians bob Newhart and Kathy Griffin and FOX's very own Dan Castellaneta, the voice of Home Simpson.

Good Day Chicago's last stop was mom and pop store Pumpkin Moon, just in time for Halloween. Thanks for having us!
