A playground was been built in Island Park, N.Y., is in honor of Caroline Previdi, one of the 20 students killed in the Newtown, Connecticut, school shooting. Caroline was a big Yankee fan a big Giant fan and she loved the color pink. This will all be reflected.
The old playground was destroyed by Hurricane Sandy. The project is part of an effort to build playgrounds in New Jersey, New York, and Connecticut to honor the 26 victims of the shooting as well as to rebuild coastal communities damaged by the storm.
The manpower comes from all over, including New Jersey firefighters, members of the FDNY, and local volunteers. All the materials are donated.
Carlos Soto has helped build five playgrounds. His daughter Victoria was one of the teachers who died while trying to protect students.
Island Park was one of the communities hit hardest. Homeowners say this playground can help them heal.
So far 10 playgrounds have been completed. The next one will be built in Highlands, New Jersey.
