A newly minted budget deal to avert future government shutdowns gained important ground Wednesday among House Republicans who are more accustomed to brinkmanship than compromise, even though it would nudge federal deficits higher three years in a row.

The 16-day partial government shutdown is all but certain to figure prominently in Thursday's final sparring match between candidates in the governor's race. And that could be a problem for Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli.

WASHINGTON -

A D.C. area restaurant that promised free food to furloughed workers will be ending its giveaway on the third day of the shutdown due to overwhelming crowds.

Z-Burger says it estimates more than $60,000 worth of free burger were given out since the shutdown began

"We are glad that we were able to help out the thousands of federal workers who came in for free burgers for lunch and dinner, said Peter Tabibian of Z-Burger.

"In order for us to stay in business, we had to make the hard choice to have our last giveaway this Thursday. We are glad that we will have served more than 15,000 federal workers by tomorrow evening."

The last day of the burger giveaway is this Thursday, November 3, 2013 from 11am-1pm and 5pm-7pm.
