Police investigating `domestic related` homicide in Posen

POSEN, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 28-year-old gunman who opened fire during a domestic dispute at a Posen home killed one man and injured another person before he was fatally shot by a Blue Island police officer, authorities said.

The incident was characterized as a "domestic-related homicide" at the home near 145th Street and Campbell Avenue, according to a news release from the south suburban village.

The guman, whose identity was not released, was fatally shot by police in the 14300 block of Sherman Avenue, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. He was pronounced dead at Ingalls Memorial Hospital in Harvey at 12:30 p.m., according to the medical examiner.

The gunman's victim, a 27-year-old Alsip man, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting about noon, according to the medical examiner's office.

Further details were not released Friday evening, pending notification of the deceased's family and further investigation, according to the village.

The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force and the Illinois State Police were investigating the shootings along with Posen police, according to the statement from the village.
