Heavy Rain Moves Across Area, Tornado Watch Ends

A Tornado Watch issued by the National Weather Service has been canceled for the entire Philadelphia area.

The watch area, when it was initially issued at 9 a.m., extended as far north as New York and as far south as Northern Virginia. The weather service said several tornadoes were possible along with damaging winds that could gust to 75 mph.

But there were no warnings issued by the local weather service office.

Multiple counties in our area have been under Severe Thunderstorm Warnings at times today. The latest was for Kent and Sussex counties and expired at 3:15 p.m.

There is still some heavy rain falling across the area, including in Monmouth and Ocean counties right before dinnertime.

The heaviest rain shifted into South Jersey and Delaware late this afternoon, FOX 29 Chief Meteorologist Scott Williams said.

This front will bring about a change in the weather pattern after summer's last gasp over the weekend. Our seven-day forecast shows highs are expected to be in the 60s for the next four days.
