Ann Romney talks new cookbook, government shutdown

PHOENIX -

Ann Romney, the wife of former presidential nominee Mitt Romney, mother of 5 boys and grandmother of 22 -- can now add national best-selling author to the list.

She's in the valley promoting her new cookbook -- and she also talked a little politics with FOX 10.

"I think people think I don't even cook. I'm like well who's going to do the cooking for 5 boys? It was me!" laughs Ann Romney.

Along with 130 recipes, Ann Romney's new cookbook 'The Romney Family Table,' is filled with photos and stories and insight into the Romney family.

The book, that came out last week, is already a best-seller.

We asked, "So how do you please 5 boys?"

Ann: "You don't and that's the easy answer! So there's a funny section in there about peanut butter and fluff, it's the go-to when nothing else will work."

She says she cooks and her husband does dishes.

"My husband's favorite recipe is meatloaf. Some of my sons' favorite recipes are in there, sweet pork burritos, but for me anything with salmon."

She also talks about turning to her comfort food, pancakes, the day after losing the election -- even making them for the Secret Service.

Romney, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, says all proceeds from her book sales go to neurological research.

"I'm doing fine but I wasn't for a while. I had about 3 to 4 years where I really could hardly get out of bed," she says.

During that time, Mitt cooked.

"It's very interesting, now that I'm better he's forgotten how to cook!"

But she says he hasn't forgotten how to lead. She cites the government shutdown.

"I think with most Americans we're very frustrated with Washington, very disappointed and I also believe if my husband were president this would not have happened."

Next, she says she plans to write a book on overcoming hardships.

Tuesday, Romney is doing book signings in Paradise Valley and in Tempe.

Schedule for October 8 book signings

Noon to 2 p.m. - Costco in Paradise Valley at 4570 E Cactus Road

6:30 to 8:30 p.m. - Changing Hands in Tempe at 6428 S McClintock Dr
