Jon Neill From Halloween Wars Creates Unique Pumpkins

Posted: Updated:

Jon Neill is an expert pumpkin carver and is on the show "Halloween Wars". He's a sculptor by trade, sculpting for the movie industry and toy industry, so he approaches this the same way by using clay tools instead of carving it by traditional means.

Here are some tips from Jon on creating a great pumpkin carving:

  • Work fast while keeping the pumpkin hydrated.
  • Find a pumpkin with a long stem, because the pumpkin will last longer with a long stem.
  • Check the bottom to see if it's soft or if it has mold.
  • Use clay tools or even a potato peeler to carve. Be careful with Exacto knives!
  • Spray with a bleach cleaner solution to extend the life of your pumpkin.

You can see more of Jon's pumpkin carvings on his personal website.  Halloween Wars airs Sunday nights at 8:00pm on the Food Network. It's an all-new season of ghoulish competition, five teams of top cake decorators, pumpkin carvers and candy craftsmen face off to create creepy confections for $50,000.

Sutter Zachman had his first record deal when he was barely out of his teens. You may have seen the Orange County native was on stage at the Largo and other hot clubs around LA. He then left town...after what he called a few "bouts" with the music business, but now he is back with a new EP called ‘Repeat Offender.'
