Phoenix man allegedly kills another with screwdriver

Matthew Blanco Matthew Blanco

A 19-year-old man allegedly used a screwdriver to kill another man in a driveway near 7th Street and Baseline.

Phoenix Police state in a report that witnesses saw a man lying in a pool of blood on Oct. 5 and called 911 immediately.

When officers arrived, the witnesses noticed the body had been moved from its original position, the report states.

Drag marks were seen coming from one of the pools of blood where David Orduno was found lying dead.

The report reveals that boot marks were seen moving away from the bloody driveway to a home down the street, occupied by Matthew Blanco.

Blanco was reportedly wearing boots with a red substance on the bottom and with a pattern on the soles matching the one left at the scene when officers contacted him.

The police report states Blanco told officers the boots didn't belong to him and that "some guy dropped them off and he put them on."

He could only describe the man as a black male who was four inches taller than him.

The boots were collected as evidence.

Blanco denies ever being at Orduno's residence the night of his death.

According to the report, Orduno was killed with two instruments, one being a Trex-type screwdriver.

A similar screwdriver was found pushed into the ground just off Blanco's back porch and blood stains were found on the house, gate and back porch.

In addition, a brown shirt witnesses had reportedly seen Blanco wearing that night was found and collected with apparent red stains on it.

Blanco faces a charge of one count of murder in the 2nd degree.
