PEORIA, Ariz. -

Two people are hospitalized after being critically burned when a fiery explosion blew up and gutted what was left of a house near 79th Avenue and Peoria.

Peoria Fire Department officials are trying to determine what caused the Wednesday night blast in a residential neighborhood.

Officials with Southwest Gas are also investigating. Crews turned off the gas to nearby homes.

Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms officials were also at the scene searching for clues to find what caused the explosion.

Fire Capt. Rob Brewster says the house was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.

Authorities say a 21-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man both have life-threatening burns over about half of their bodies.  According to Peoria Police Department spokeswoman Amanda Jacinto, they were renovating the home, but apparently didn't live there.

The family of 21-year-old Tiara Del Rio called FOX 10 on Thursday to say the aspiring model is a graduate of Peoria High School.

Neighbors said they heard and felt a loud explosion and saw two people running from the home with burn injuries.

"I really wanted to get with you guys, just to thank Beau.. her boyfriend.. for pulling her out of that," said Stephen Lewis, a relative of Del Rio.  "I mean in my heart, he's a hero.  We told his family that last night -- we really consider him a hero in my family.  And when this is all said and done with, I'm going to be grateful to him forever."

According to Tiara's family, she said she lit a candle and the next thing she remembers is waking up in a hospital.
