Volunteers help restore Bolingbrook camp after vandalism

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

It's been over a year since vandals ripped through Campfire Kata Kani Camp in Bolingbrook.

Vandals busted cabin doors and windows about 16 months ago, making a mess of a place reserved for kids but thanks to some good guys, the camp is repaired - just in time for Halloween.

"We were approached by Rebuilding Together to come out and do a service project with the people from Honeywell in Bolingbrook which is a huge gift for us because we have very limited resources," said Stephanie Schiszik, CEO of Campfire Illinois Prairie.

Camp Fire Illinois Prairie had limited resources and limited time to clean up before hosting its big Halloween Woods Walk next week. Enter the volunteers from Honeywell.

"We have the team of 35 employees, doing something a little different than our everyday jobs," said Lisa Kapica, general manager for Honeywell.

A seven-hour day fixing bridges, tables, playground sets and trails as well as windows, doors and fresh paint for the cabins. It was all made possible thanks to the volunteers and $5000 worth of materials from Honeywell.

"They are clearing paths and raking leaves and just getting us cleaned up and spruced up so we are ready to have company," Schiszik said. "We are eternally grateful that they are giving us so much help."

The Halloween Woods Walk is scheduled for the October 25-27.
