SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (WJBK) -

Police confirm a 38-year-old man has died after a dump truck accident.

From SkyFox, you can see tarps covering the tragic scene in a parking lot on 12 Mile Road near Pierce Street in Southfield. A dump truck was loaded with gravel when police say it experienced engine problems and the owner, Harvey Gipson of Detroit, climbed underneath to make repairs.

"Whoever he was working for, he told them the truck was having problems and he was going to fix it," Gipson's aunt Alleda Mull says.

Mull says she raised Gipson and his siblings as children, after their mother died in her early 30's. Gipson ran HD Gipson Trucking Company. The college graduate is the father of two young children.

Police say based on their preliminary investigation that the victim's clothing got caught up in the drive shaft, which is what killed him. He owns the truck and it looks like he was working alone.

"Remember him as a kind, decent, honest, hardworking young man because he was a hard worker," Mull tells Fox 2's Robin Schwartz. "Cherish the moment, every moment, every minute, every hour, every second is important so cherish the moments. Cherish."

Stunned friends and family members gathered to console each other at the house where Gipson grew up on Detroit's west side. Friends are posting dozens of messages on Gipson's Facebook page, with thoughts and prayers for his family. One wrote, "You never know when it may be your time to go." Another says, "Always a giver and would keep you laughing, he will truly be missed."
